Kenyan media gossip websites :Will they really give the politicians a blackout.

First things first; the Kenyan media landscape has expanded in recent years. There are now about 100 FM and community radio stations in the country and a dozen or so TV stations. The liberalization of the media in Kenya has seen a proliferation of Kenyan media jobs. Such jobs are very high paying. Some of jobs in the Kenyan media now includes news anchors, news and show presenters, program controllers, producers et al. Naturally, Kenyan media gossip websites have sprung up in order to analyze and critique the media stations. For instance, just recently, there has been a call in the Kenyan online community to give the politicians a blackout. This was especially occasioned by the fact that the Ocampo six have reportedly been given too much media coverage.

However, going by the thousands of people that attended the Ocampo six home coming rally in Uhuru Park, it appears that was what the Kenyan people really wanted. The snaking lines from the airport as fervent supporters chanted political slogans showed that even if the Kenyan media wanted to black out the Ocampo six and politics in general, politics is what Kenyans feed on. The ultimate focus of the media would be why there would be thousands of young people attending the rally at Uhuru Park. This could point to the serious unemployment and idleness among the youth, which in itself is a ticking time bomb. The Kenyan middle class will of course, castigate such youth for attending such rallies, but for them, their politicians and leaders represent their best hopes, in face of their grinding poverty and daily existence.

The gossip websites rant about all the happenings in the media, from how news anchors dress, the programs and in general everything about the media. Some of the most analyzed TV and radio stations include Citizen TV, NTV, KTN, Capital FM, Kiss FM, Classic 105 FM, Easy FM, et al. Some of the most analyzed news anchors include Catherine Kasavuli of Citizen, Lilian Muli who recently moved to citizen, Larry………Madowu, Cynthia Nyamai , Anne Kiguta, Caroline Mutoko et al. Some of the sites include www.frankierants.com, www.egoimagekenya.com, mashada.com and izvpi.com.
