Kenyan women and dating.

Late last year, a Nigerian pastor caused a stampede as Kenyan women scrummed to get a seat at the Kenyatta International Conference (KICC). The Nigerian pastor had come all the way from Nigeria in order to impart Kenyan women with important dating and marriage tips. At the end of the summons, many women proclaimed to have received marriage proposals via sms. Criticize the Nigerian pastor all you want, but he clearly knows his trade. Whether he is in deed a miracle pastor or a brilliant businessman, only time will tell.

Kenyan women have in deed been complaining that there is an acute shortage of eligible Kenyan men to marry them. When one tunes to any FM radio station, the bashing of Kenyan men is indeed a notch high. Whether its Maina Kageni and Mwalimu Kingangi on Classic 105 or Caroline Mutoko’s Man Up Monday, Ciku’s busted, or the Easy FM morning show program, it appears that men are at the sort end of the stick. However, the question that appears to trouble many relationship gurus is the stereotypical skewed numbers. On any relation column, you will get the idea that the ration of men to women is 1:5 or something of that region. However, the Kenya national population census figures appear to contradict this, showing a ratio of roughly 1:1.

The apparent shortage has led to the proliferation of Kenyan women dating sites. So, is it that Kenyan women have unrealistic expectations of a would be husband material. The image of the perfect husband material is a man who has a secure job, is highly educated, lives in a secure neighborhood, and of course the tall dark and handsome physique. Given that Kenya is a third world country, with high unemployment rates, only a few Kenyan men would make this mark. This then presents a very unique Kenyan dating scenario, with the few men who have made it having several ‘Mpango wa kandos’ since he is deemed a big catch by the women. For the Kenyan men, it seems the advice is to first acquire wealth or that big job before plunging into the dating scene.

  1. The scene that the Nigerian Pastor displayed to Kenyans was shocking. Most people termed those women as "desperate" but I wouldn't call them desperate. I think they were women who knew what they wanted and went for it.
But that said now to some more realistic news about dating sites. They are a perfect opportunity for singles to meet other singles and break the "single-hood".
