Strathmore University Overview.

Strathmore University just recently celebrated its Golden Jubilee (50 years) since its inception. It has been one of the fastest growing Universities in Kenya, thanks to its visionary board. It is run by a board, just as would happen in a company. Its business school, the Strathmore business school, is one of the best business schools in the country despite being just a few years old. The guest speakers in the Strathmore business school have included the who is who in the world of business academia. Such speakers have included Harvard Strategy guru Michael E.Porter, Prof. Minzberg among others. Besides, the Business school affiliations with INSEAD, Lagos Business School among other elite business schools in the country. Locally, it faces strong competition from the USIU business school, the UON School of business, Kenyatta among others. The University, together the high school (Strathmore School) has strong catholic links.

Strathmore University courses

The courses offered by Strathmore University are mainly in business and IT. It has both an undergraduate and postgraduate school. The minimum entrance of the courses in undergraduate school is a C+ whereas the entrance for the postgraduate courses is a Second Upper or a GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0. The Strathmore MBA however requires some work experience in order for one to be admitted. The length of the work experience required is normally between three and five years. Together with USIU and other private Universities, the MBA program has adopted the case studies of local businesses, to make the courses more relevant to the Kenyan job market. If one is unable to attend the University, they can opt for elearning, provided that they have access to a computer and internet connection. One may also be able to access the library online.

Strathmore University fees structure.

The fees for the various courses vary, although as a private University, the fees are expected to be expensive. There are however, a number of scholarships that are offered for bright but needy students to complete their studies. Such scholarships include the Guinness scholarship that usually sponsors a student in IT/Business course.
